STARKVILLE, Miss.—Haifeng Wang, a Mississippi State Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering assistant professor, is a 2025 Mississippi Academy of Sciences Early Career Award winner.
The prestigious award recognizes Wang’s contributions to the scientific community through teaching, research and mentorship. He will be formally honored with this award at the annual MAS meeting in Biloxi later this month.
Wang said the award is a testament to the support and guidance he’s received throughout his career.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Mississippi Academy of Sciences, my mentors, colleagues and collaborators, whose encouragement and insights have shaped my journey and continually inspired me to push the boundaries of my research,” said Wang, who is also co-graduate coordinator for the ISE department.
To receive this award, a candidate must be within eight years of their terminal degree as of Dec. 31 in the award year and a member of the MAS for a minimum of three years. The organization considers nominees’ teaching, research and mentorship contributions to the scientific community.
Upon receiving this award, Wang will continue to participate in the MAS and serve as a role model for other early career faculty and students. ISE department head Mohammad Marufuzzaman said Wang’s contributions have been significant to the entire scientific community.
“This is a very well-deserved recognition for Dr. Wang,” Marufuzzaman said. “He is an incredibly productive faculty, and I appreciate his dedication and continuous commitment to our students and the scientific community.”
The MAS, Mississippi’s largest organization of scientists and engineers and one of the nation’s most active state academies of science, fosters communication between scientists and promotes science education and community assistance. For more information, visit https://msacad.org.
