MSU Bagley College of Engineering research lab, faculty and students recognized at 2023 Student Leadership and Community Engagement Awards

A Bagley College of Engineering research lab as well as numerous engineering faculty and students were recognized at this year’s Student Leadership and Community Engagement awards.
The Watersheds and Water Quality Research Lab, located in the Richard A. Rula School of Civil and Environmental engineering received a Group Excellence in Community Service award.
Dr. John Ramirez-Avila received the Faculty/Staff Volunteer of the Year Award for Watersheds and Water Quality Research Lab, Catalpa Creek Stream Clean up and Teaching Water. The Watersheds and Water Quality Research Lab also received a Group Excellence in Community Service Award (200+ hours of service)
In addition to the Watersheds and Water Quality Research Lab award, several students and faculty members were also honored with awards. The faculty and students along with their awards are as followed:

Montgomery Leadership Program Capstone of the Year - Kari Oppedal for her project, Catalpa Creek Cleanup in partnership with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS), Watersheds and Water Quality Research Lab (WWQRL), and Chevron
Individual Excellence in Community Service award (100+ service hours) – Lorena Chavarro-Chaux and Joshua Seid
Maroon Graduation Cord – Lorena Chavarro-Chaux and Joshua Seid
Alternative Break Trip Participant – Tair Marshipov and Mabel Clausen
