STARKVILLE, Miss. – A Bagley College of Engineering faculty member earned national recognition for his dedication to engineering education.

Assistant professor Veera Gnaneswar Gude received both the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Southwest district and the National James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award from Chi Epsilon, a civil engineering honor society.

“This well-deserved recognition highlights the consistent commitment to academic rigor and education demonstrated by Dr. Gude in his classroom and student research activities,” said Dennis Truax, head of the civil and environmental engineering department.

The Mississippi State chapter of Chi Epsilon nominated Gude for the Southwest district award because of his high standards, enthusiasm, and dedication to teaching and his students. He qualified for the national award after receiving the district recognition.

Chi Epsilon established the National James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award in 1984 to recognize dedicated educators in the civil engineering field. It honors the late James M. Robbins who was nationally known as an outstanding civil engineering educator.

Chi Epsilon consists of 137 chapters in 10 districts, including the Southwest section, which covers Texas, Mississippi and part of Louisiana. Founded in 1922, the organization honors civil engineering students and professionals who exhibit scholarship, character, practicality and sociability. It seeks to improve and maintain the profession through the development of character and technical ability of its members.
