Harrell to Launch Pritchard Speaker Series

STARKVILLE, Miss.–An expert in simulation and systems design will discuss evolving applications of the technology in the field of industrial engineering Monday [Dec. 1] as Mississippi State’s first Robert Pritchard Distinguished Speaker.
Charles Harrell, an associate professor of manufacturing engineering technology at Brigham Young University, will speak at 1:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Memorial Library auditorium. The Bagley College of Engineering’s department of industrial engineering will host the event, which is open to the public.
Harrell, founder of and chief technological adviser for PROMODEL Corp., will present ‘ Simulation Modeling and Analysis: Past, Present and Future’ to MSU engineering students and faculty. He will recount the growth of simulation applications over the past few decades, predict how the technology may evolve in the future, and discuss career opportunities related to simulation modeling and analysis.
The event is part of an ongoing speaker series made possible through the Pritchard Endowed Fund for Faculty Excellence. The fund was established specifically to provide faculty development in the industrial engineering department through such areas as continued education, professional development and training, travel, special equipment, and graduate student support.
Harrell received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young, a master’s in industrial engineering from the University of Utah and a doctorate in manufacturing engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. His industry experience includes engineering and management positions for Ford Motor Co. and Eaton Corp. At BYU, he teaches courses in manufacturing systems, manufacturing simulation and manufacturing information systems.
