STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Bagley College of Engineering will soon introduce new academic opportunities to undergraduate students.
The Global Engineering Leadership (GEL) minor allows the BCoE to educate future engineers on the culture of other countries and how to be a part of collaborations that span the globe.
Designed to enhance students’ knowledge of engineering practice in the global marketplace, the new GEL minor will be available in the fall of 2016 to students enrolled in the BCoE with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Students enrolled in the minor will develop proficiency in a foreign language, experience living and studying in a foreign country, and become familiar with engineering leadership and management techniques.
James Warnock, Bagley’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, stated how this minor can benefit students and their future pursuits in engineering.
“It will really help students as they progress through their career,” said Warnock. “It helps them fine-tune professional skills and teaches them how to apply these skills on a global level.”
Warnock also explained that the minor is unique to Bagley students in offering not only global aspects, but leadership aspects as well.
“Students who receive this minor will develop leadership skills that are applicable to a multinational cooperation,” said Warnock. “For students who are interested in a management career path, this will help them develop those skills as well.”
Undergraduates interested in completing the GEL minor should talk to their academic advisor to ensure they meet the prerequisites of the curriculum.
