First MSU ‘Engineering Day’ to precede Georgia game Sept. 24

September 16, 2005

Mississippi State’s inaugural “Engineering Day” Sept. 24 will feature a variety of student design projects, displays and informational booths preceding the Bulldogs’ home football game against Georgia.

Activities representing each academic discipline of the university’s Bagley College of Engineering will begin at 3 p.m. on the historic Drill Field in front of McCain Hall. Engineering alumni, friends and other university visitors are invited to attend.

Kickoff for the nationally televised (ESPN2) Southeastern Conference contest is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.

Among featured events will be several student design projects, including civil engineering’s “concrete canoe,” mechanical engineering’s SAE Formula and Mini-Baha competition cars, and aerospace engineering’s Design/Build/Fly Team airplane.

“We feel that Engineering Day will provide an informal and fun venue for us to communicate with our alumni all the exciting opportunities that are available to our students today,” said college Dean Kirk Schulz.

“We have had numerous student organizations receive national awards for their research and design projects, and we are looking forward to sharing their success with our alumni,” he added.

Tours of the various engineering buildings and facilities, tailgating with faculty and administrators, and a “state of the college” address by Schulz are among other events planned during the afternoon.

Alumni and others desiring to attend any or all of the activities are encouraged to register in advance at the college Web site, https://www.bagley.msstate.edu/giving/alumni-friends/. Additional Engineering Day information also is provided at this site.
