Mississippi State University Bagley College of Engineering is pleased to announce that Professor Andy Perkins has been named as the interim head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, succeeding Shahram Rahimi.

"Stepping into the role of interim department head is both an honor and a responsibility. My focus will be on maintaining the momentum the department has established over the past several years and ensuring we stay aligned with our goals during this transition,” Perkins said. “I'm excited to support the team and collaborate with everyone as we continue to drive success."

Interim Dean Robert Green said Perkins brings valuable leadership and experience to the role.

“With a strong background in computer science and a commitment to academic excellence, he will oversee departmental operations and support faculty and students as we continue to advance our mission of innovation and research,” he said.

Perkins joined the Bagley College of Engineering in 2008 and has served as associate head for the department, coordinator of the graduate program in computational biology, and chair of the University Committee on Courses and Curricula. Perkins received his doctoral degree in computer science from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from Murray State University in Kentucky
