MSU engineering students take first place in student design at ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction

Five Mississippi State engineering students placed first in Best Student Design at the 2024 Association for Computing Machinery/Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction.
The team was one of 15 teams to compete in the Best Student Design category at the conference in Boulder, Colorado. The team won with their design of the “Emotibot,” a fully interactive and emotive robot. The robots were primarily designed and built by Jade Thompson, a senior software engineering student, and Kyler Smith, a senior computer engineering student.
Thompson and Smith were mentored by Kenna Baugus-Henkel, a computer science and engineering graduate student, and Zach Henkel, a computer science and engineering Ph.D. student.
The team was advised by Cindy Bethel, the Billie J. Ball Endowed Professor in Engineering.
