Expecting Excellence: Mississippi State University engineering student group once again named Outstanding Chapter for the Year

For the 21st time in the last 22 years, the Mississippi State University student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers has been selected as an Outstanding Student Chapter by the parent organization.

“We are exceedingly pleased with the consistent level of commitment and enthusiasm of our AIChE members year after year. This long-standing track record is a testament to the high caliber of our students in engagement, service, and leadership,” Julie Jessop, professor of chemical engineering and the AIChE chapter advisor, said.

The MSU AIChE organization is the professional student chapter that promotes chemical engineering at Mississippi State University. Through the generous support of the Hunter Henry family and alums, the MSU AIChE student chapter carries forward a long-standing legacy of scholarship, leadership and service. Through numerous K-12 and service-learning outreach activities each year, AIChE members strive to serve our community on and off campus.

The MSU student chapter is being recognized by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for its impressive participation by members, students and faculty, the number of meetings and events, varieties of activities offered, including career guidance and community outreach and the chapters’ participation in local, regional and global AIChE programs.

The award was presented at the 2022 AIChE Annual Student Conference during the Student Awards Ceremony Sunday, November 13. It marked the 31st time since 1977 that the student group has been selected as one of the nation’s top chapters.

“The AIChE student leaders do a phenomenal job of providing innovative networking, professional development, social, and service opportunities for our student body,” Jessop said. “I’m especially proud of how they’ve kept their momentum even through the difficult COVID years.”
