Chemical engineering alumnus Michael Faulkner will serve as the guest speaker at this year’s Hunter Henry Lecture Series. The event will take place April 20 at 3:30 p.m. and will be held in the Swalm auditorium (Swalm 001).
Faulkner earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Mississippi State in 1989. In addition to serving as this year’s Henry Henry lecturer, he has also been named as the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering Distinguished Alumnus for 2022.
Faulkner said he is looking forward to speaking to Mississippi State students about his experiences in the engineering field at Dow Chemical.
“I am deeply honored to be selected as this year’s chemical engineering speaker for the Hunter Henry Lecture Series. Hunter Henry was a great leader at Dow and a strong supporter of Mississippi State, so this is especially rewarding to me as a 33-year Dow employee and MSU alum,” Faulkner said. “My desire is that the students will be inspired to accept the challenge to develop and advance the technologies that will make the petrochemical industry more sustainable.”
Faulkner is currently the Tech Center Director of the coating and performance monomers businesses at Dow Chemical. Dow Chemical is one of the largest chemical producers in the world.
The Hunter Henry Lecture is given each spring by an alumni of either the chemical engineering or petroleum engineering programs. Faulkner, who is on the Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board, will be lecturing on “Opportunities in a Sustainable Future” to provide an overview of technology platforms that petrochemical manufacturers are pursing to achieve net-carbon zero.
Bill Elmore, Director of the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, spoke about the contributions Faulkner has made to Mississippi State.
“Mr. Faulkner has been one of our most active alumni since graduating in ’89. Over the years he has championed Mississippi State and the Chemical Engineering program at every opportunity—working tirelessly to place our graduates and provide our students with invaluable coaching to prepare them for successful entry into the engineering workforce.”
