Master's - Students who completed their bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering with an appropriate GPA and experience should consider this exciting new opportunity which allows you to grow your knowledge, gain a graduate degree, and work from your current location.. Students considering the program should speak with the Human Resource Office in their place of work as many companies have educational benefits. The department plans to offer at least two classes per semester to help students stay on track with the program. The program of study of a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree includes advanced courses in Chemical Engineering (12 hours), Mathematics & Statistics (6 hours), and elective courses selected based on student’s career goals and interests. The MS program includes thesis option and courses-only (non-thesis) option. Students develop their program of study in consultation with the major professor and graduate committee. For experimental thesis work, students would need access to necessary set up and materials at their current place of work. For computational thesis work, students can remotely avail computing resources at Mississippi State University or national supercomputing facility.
Ph.D. - Students with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering can admit directly into that program with appropriate GPA and experience. Students considering the program should speak with the Human Resource Office in their place of work as many companies have educational benefits. The department plans to offer at least two classes per semester to help students stay on track with the program. For experimental dissertation work, students need access to necessary set up and materials at their current place of work. For computational dissertation work, students can remotely use computing resources at Mississippi State University or can use a national supercomputing facility.
Admission decisions are made by the department’s graduate affairs committee (GAC) based on the applicant’s academic transcripts, a personal essay (statement of purpose), research experience, letters of recommendation, and research interests. The GRE is not required. International students must submit TOEFL/IELTS scores. Acceptable score ranges can be found in the graduate catalog at http://catalog.msstate.edu/graduate/colleges-degree-programs/engineering/chemical/. Applicants can find additional information on admission requirements and the admission procedure on the graduate school’s admissions webpage at https://apply.grad.msstate.edu/.

For others interested in this program without a B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering please pass along the following guidelines:
For those applicants not possessing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, admission will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If accepted, those students will be required to complete the required prerequisites and the Chemical Engineering undergraduate core curriculum:
Prerequisites
Calculus sequence plus differential equations
Calculus-based physics (one semester)
Undergraduate Core Curriculum
CHE 2114 Mass and Energy Balances - 4
CHE 3113 Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics I - 3*
CHE 3123 Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics II - 3
CHE 4113 Chemical Reactor Design - 3
CHE 4313 Transport Phenomena - 3**
*CHE 3113 can be replaced with an equivalent course in Physical Chemistry or Thermal Physics.
**CHE 4313 Transport Phenomena can be replaced with equivalent courses in Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer (ex: both Fluid Flow Operation (CHE 3203) and Heat Transfer Operation (CHE 3213))
The Graduate Affairs Committee can waive/add course pre-requisites based on student background and preparation.
