Each year, Great Minds in STEM, also known as the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corporation, actively recognizes Hispanic professionals in STEM who serve as role models for the next generation of American engineers and scientists. The purpose of the award program is to encourage and inspire young people to pursue STEM fields, and to motivate professionals to continuously connect with the Hispanic community.

“I would like to thank my nominator, Jared Johnson,” said Martinez-Guerra. “I would also like to thank Gnaneswar Gude, Mihan McKenna, David Van Dorpe, and Gary Anguiano for their letters of recommendation.”

Martinez-Guerra obtained a master’s degree in civil & environmental engineering from Mississippi State University’s Bagley College of Engineering in 2013. She also graduated from Mississippi State with a doctorate degree in civil & environmental engineering in 2016. She is currently a research environmental engineer at the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research & Development Center.

Martinez-Guerra and the other award recipients will be honored at the 31st Annual Great Minds in STEM Conference, which will take place September 25-28, 2019 in Lake Buena Vista Florida.
