The James Worth Bagley College of Engineering is proud to recognize our first seven honorees for the Student Hall of Fame. These students have demonstrated superior academic achievement, leadership, and service/character. The College of Engineering is dedicated to the professional and personal development of its students and committed to fostering a holistic environment conducive to student excellence both in and out of the classroom.
Claire Fellman is a December 2006 graduate in biological engineering from Ocean Springs, MS. Claire has been very active in a variety of activities at MSU including serving on the drumline for the famous maroon band. Claire is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, the Institute for Biological Engineers, and the Theta Tau Professional engineering fraternity. Claire was instrumental in reactivating the university chapter of Mortar Board and has served as president, new member liaison and Presidents’ Roundtable Coordinator for the Engineering Student Council. Claire also served as a Congressional Intern for Senator Thad Cochran during one semester.
Wesley Holland is a senior computer engineering major from Florence, MS. Wesley has received a National Merit Scholarship as well as the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Wesley was named the MSU Honor Society’s Outstanding Freshman during his first year at MSU. Wesley serves as an undergraduate researcher as well as laboratory teaching assistant for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Wesley is a member of Mortar Board, IEEE, ACM, and Phi Kappa Phi. Wesley is a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department’s Student Advisory Council and has been instrumental in establishing the department’s highly successful First Friday event.
Jeremy Johnson is a senior chemical engineering major from Vicksburg, MS. Jeremy has served as a co-op for Weyerhaeuser and is currently a resident assistant for the housing office at MSU. Jeremy is currently president of the Black Student Alliance and is running for president of the Student Association for the 2007-08 academic year. Jeremy has received numerous honors in his time at MSU including Greek Man of the Year and has been inducted into the Order of Omega Greek Hall of Fame. Jeremy is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Jeremy serves as counselor and math tutor for the Summer Bridge program helping new students get acclimated to life at MSU.
Austin Moore is a senior civil engineering major from Jackson, MS. Austin began his college career at Hinds Community College before transferring to MSU. Austin is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Theta Kappa, and Chi Epsilon. Austin has been actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers including serving as president and captain of the concrete canoe team. Austin also serves as secretary of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Austin has owned his own Disc Jockey service since 1998.
Erica Souther is a senior civil engineering major from Kissimmee, FL. Erica is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, the American Society of Civil Engineers and Mortar board. Erica has been active in the Engineering Student Council, serving as Social Committee Chair, President, and Presidents’ Roundtable Facilitator. Erica is also a member of the Wesley Foundation’s United Methodist Ministry where she has served on the publicity committee and currently is a member of the leadership team. Erica has participated in numerous service events including Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, the Society of St. Andrews Potato Drop, Prison Ministry, and Habitat for Humanity.
Teresa (Teri) Vaughn is a senior biological engineering major from Starkville, MS. Teri is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, the National Forensics League, the Society of Women Engineers, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Teri has served as president of both Tau Beta Pi and the Institute for Biological Engineers as well as the outreach coordinator for the Society of Women Engineers. Teri has also been active in the community serving as a volunteer at the Oktibbeha County Humane Society, a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity Hurricane relief project, a meals-on-wheels volunteer, as well as numerous other service activities.
Amanda Wright is a senior mechanical engineering major from Gulfport, MS. Amanda has served as a student researcher for the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems in addition to interning at Holcim US, and serving as a co-op student for Eaton Aerospace. Amanda is the treasurer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a member of Tau Beta Pi and Gamma Beta Phi Society. Amanda also served as the director of the Engineering Student Council regional conference. Amanda is a council member of the Catholic Student Association. Amanda has been active in the community serving on Hurricane Katrina volunteer trips as well as volunteering with Starkville’s Habitat for Humanity.
The Hall of Fame Induction ceremony was held February 22, 2007, at Hotel Chester in downtown Starkville, Miss. These seven students are just the start of honoring the exemplary students produced at Mississippi State University through the College of Engineering.
